The last 2 types I want to talk about are Snapchat and Youtube, Snapchat works mainly as support for other Social Media channels. It helps with keeping in touch with your customers but it also keeps them wondering since snaps are only around for 1-10 seconds.

Youtube is the biggest search engine on the internet for bloggers and business owners people work hard at keeping people in the loop by posting live videos and streaming.

Overall Impression

My overall impression of the book was that it had a lot of information and it did a good job at explaining all the information.

I worked in Social Media Marketing for awhile and I used Facebook to reach my target market so I know first hand what it’s like to create ads and such. A lot of the ideas like how to gain followers and gain a broader reach was just a refresher but I never even knew that LinkedIn and Google+ were such big hot spots for Social Media Marketing.

How To Help

Also it was nice how it went in depth about how to help with taking pictures and videos, i never really thought about how angle’s filters and things can really affect what your following wants to see.

The first key point I want to touch on is from Twitter, I knew of the idea to “Pin” important Tweets but I never knew how important it was. In the book it talked about how pinning important Tweets can really help keep your target markets attention.

Keeping Your Followers Updated

Secondly, Youtube being the leader in Social Media Marketing must be taken advantage of. Learning how keeping your following updated by having daily live videos really made things clear to me why I see so many people posting live videos nowadays.

Brand Ambassadors

Lastly, I want to touch on the importance of brand ambassadors. In the beginning on the book it talks about how having people help you by posting videos, pictures and even having a following of their own can really help you grow.

Now onto analyzing, throughout reading this book I noticed a few things that I would have likes a little differently. The first thing I felt like I would have liked a little different is how the chapters were laid out. They were laid out with just headings and then a description.

Step By Step Approach

I would have like a more step by step approach, there didn’t seem to be much of an order at all it was just what came to mind first. Maybe by numbering each paragraph and heading underneath topics the book could have seemed a little more organized.

The second thing was I felt that there wasn’t enough information for some of the categories. Like with Pinterest I am not very familiar with it and feel that if I wanted to start a company Pinterest would be the ione I would stay out of for sometime until I get a better understanding on how they work.

The Strengths Of The Book

The strengths of the book were clear, it gave a broad understanding of the benefits and ways these applications can help you be successful. But I would say the weakness is if you came into reading this book knowing nothing about social media marketing you would be so lost.

They really needed to help people gain an understanding on how they even work. I would recommend this to others because it does give them a great overview of how to be successful. I wouldn’t recommend this to my Grandma because she would be incredibly confused and lost.


In conclusion, I feel this book helped me get a refresher from what I learned at my old job on how to reach lots of people and how to gain followers.

But it also showed me a lot I didn’t know, like how LinkedIn and Youtube are very popular ways to be successful as well. Overall I would say it was a good read and it helped me gain a much better understanding on Social Media Marketing.

This is an outstanding book. Worth 10x the price paid.

Please disregard the reviews that say this is for “newbies” or “I already knew most of the stuff in the book”… Nonsense–I disagree wholeheartedly with these statements.

In-Depth Tips

Not only are the tips very in-depth and meaty, but you can digest them quickly.

Sure, out of 500, you’re going to know some of them if you’ve stepped foot in the social media ring at all, but I’ll bet at least 70-80% of them you won’t know, or hadn’t thought of. The only way someone would know most of these is if they had written a book themselves.

I’m pretty social media savvy, not an expert but not a novice, and most of the stuff in this book I hadn’t thought of or didn’t know.

There’s stuff in here about YouTube & Facebook you would NEVER figure out without someone telling you, as well as the other networks. Its a huge value-add for me.

Here’s the really good thing – if you’re an Attention Deficit Disorder Biz Owner (like me) with tons to do and a distraction around every corner, this is the book for you.

You can pick it up and in 30 seconds read a few tips. Unlike other books, you don’t have to even finish a chapter or 5 pages straight to get something out of it.

So for people with very little time and lots on their mind but need a kick in the pants to get moving, this is a must-have.

I’ve started taking notes in the back of the book, and in the margins in each chapter I’ve written a “Done?” check-box so I can check off each applicable tip as I’ve implemented it.

Implement Tips In 30 Seconds

Some are very simple, you can implement the tip in 30 seconds, others (like making an online vid or upgrading your profile) will take longer… but almost every tip I’ve read has been pure gold.

This is a great book for people at any skill level. I have only read specific chapters, as I am only trying to learn how to better hone my skills in specific social media apps, mainly Twitter & Instagram. I have to say for not even reading the whole book, this is jam packed with valuable information. I plan to read the whole book in due time just because of how great the information is in this book. I have to give major props to the author for breaking down the chapters and the tips so well. It really is super easy to read and follow because the way the book is structured it is catered towards any type of reader. I really tend to like books that are straight to the point and are separated into sections that are easy to follow, and this book does it perfectly. The information is also updated for 2017, which is great, but a lot of the information on the book is not specific to the year and is valuable just in general marketing. I am a college student working towards my marketing degree and if social media marketing is something that you want to focus on, then this is definitely the go-to book.

I’m extremely glad to have came across this kindlebook of 500 Social Media Marketing Tips: Essential Advice, Hints, and Strategy for Business; Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest, Google+, Youtube, Instagram, Linkedin, and More by Andrew Macarthy over two months ago via amazon. One reason; the author explains why breaking news, holidays, and special events can inspire content ideas and deciding which social networks will be best for you. Additionally, one of my goals is to be able to perfect writing and picking up various sources of communication and learning from different websites in both a mature and self-confident manner regardless of my occupation title. This has become important to me as I notice that there are many other commenters online who share my first name and post online as well as people who post under my birth middle name (which I understand happens to many other people as well). Posting online helps me both learn from others (as well as pick up knowledge from other web sites) yet also express my voice in a way to where the way I actually think and am becomes more apparent as I follow my heart to post what I say in both a mature and harm-free manner even when people who may share my name or birth middle name post on the same web sites that I do. The chapters on using twitter (which I admit that the author uses tips about twitter that I did not think about). Additionally, I’m glad that the author included googleplus especially because there are also tips in there that I need to learn and apply plus there is more in this kindlebook by Andrew Macarthy.

Thorough, current and relevant


Technology and social media trends change so quickly that its important that the book is up-to-date. This was updated just earlier this year. The author has covered each social media platform thoroughly and while some of the strategies are the same across the board, he points out the nuances of each platform and how to make the best use of each one. The info is presented with each platform having its own section making it easy to go back and drill down on the strategies when creating your own plan.

I would highly recommend purchasing this book if you are looking to implement social media as part of your marketing strategy in your business. The book is laid out in a simplistic format, so it is easy to look up information on each social media platform. There are many great tips regarding content, tone of voice, and paid advertising.
